Circumcision 'Like having your tongue but not being able to taste': NORM-UK members on BBC Radio 4

Sunday 26th June 2011
NORM-UK members have contributed to a discussion of the ethics around circumcision on BBC Radio 4.

The programme "Broadcasting House" on June 26th featured contributions from Richard Duncker and an anonymous member "Dan" alongside Anthony Lempert of the Secular Medical Forum.

"Dan", who was circumcised 3 years ago said, "it's totally different; imagine having your tongue and not being able to taste. You'd still be able to use your tongue, still be able to talk, but if you couldn't taste certain foods or taste anything at all... I liken it to that".

Dan goes on to explain how members of the medical profession played down the potential effects of circumcision in order to persuade him to undergo the procedure.

There is an article about the Cardiff BMA protest by NORM-UK members, mentioned in the programme, on the BBC News Online website: Debate circumcision ethics call.
Unfortunately the radio programme itself is no longer available to listen to online.

NORM-UK would like to thank the members who showed great courage in taking part in this programme.
